I cut out two body shapes, one large and one small, for this piece, then rolled out an irregular shape, laid the bodies on top, and rolled them together with a textured roller. I applied an iron wash followed by a glaze to turn this a mottled black, wiping some spots clean to allow the reddish clay to show through to represent soil and blood.
My pain and illness have smashed me, worn grooves in me, and deeply formed me. Here's to fertility and rich texture.
